Suparule
has developed a new sensor technology which will enable
the measurement of alternating voltage in a conductor,
e.g. an overhead AC Power Line.
The sensor is based on the positioning of capacitive sensors
in a circle around the conductor. The electric field created
by the voltage between the conductor and ground induces
a voltage in the capacitive sensors, which is proportional
to the electric field of the conductor. Using minimal
electronics, the voltage on the conductor can be calculated,
as well as rejecting the influence of fields associated
with adjacent conductors.
